Working in InDesign

In the first InDesign workshop, we began to learn skills and techniques on how to lay out a page of a magazine.

Layout Ideas - Thumbnails

I have sketched a few layout ideas in the form of thumbnails that I could use to present my article. I have thought about size and scale, positioning, shapes and the combination of text and image within the layout. I think that the illustrations of the spider gives the newspaper article the slight informal feel that I wanted, but I have also kept the designs quite simple and clean.
I will use these ideas to help create mock ups of the layout.

Working in Photoshop

We was firstly given the four images below, none of the photographs are of great quality. We were then asked to combine all of the images together using Photoshop, and therefore making a better quality and more interesting image.

Although I already felt confident in using Photoshop, after following this tutorial I have learnt about a few more techniques and tools in which I can therefore use these in future practise. In this piece of work I had to think about rotating and rescaling the image to get the proportions right. I had to remove parts of the image by using the patch tool, and also using the layer mask to remove distractions in the background and to make the image better quality. Also I broadened my understanding in using transform and correction tools to give a more realistic result.
After adding the reflections to the bulb, I feel that the outcome is quite realistic and I am therefore pleased with the result. I however feel that the background is not as clean as it could be so in future practise I would make sure that this is not an issue.

Mood Board

As development for my story, I created a quick mood board to help set the mood and represent the characters and feelings in the story. It helps you be able to picture the story better than just reading the story alone. I will develop this mood board if I feel I need to do this further.
