Colour and Emotion

I enjoyed Tracy's lecture on Colour Phycology and became very interested in the way that people perceive different colours. I feel that this is very important in graphic design as it is a necessity that you don't give the wrong message in your work.

We was given a short task of linking the emotions that we get from certain colours. These are my personal results:

Red - Evil / scared
Green - Jealousy / sick
White - Good / kindness
Purple - Pain
Yellow - Summer / warmth / joy
Black - Death
Blue - Cool / Fresh
Orange - Warmth / sun / crazy
Grey - Cold / boring

After this, we compared answers within the lecture and we all had similar answers which I found very interesting. It shows that colour is very powerful and I feel that it is almost like another language.

After looking at other visual experiments which all show similar results, I feel that I can emphasise this in my work to make the messages and meanings I am trying to show a lot clearer. I feel this would be very effective after broadening my understanding of how powerful colour is in the world.
